We’re proud to present a fine collection of paintings by Leigh Chiller, documenting early and continuing interests in figurative landscape abstraction, giving us the essence: that split second glimpse of a distilled journey. Great paintings are timeless and his works from the 1990s are as fresh as if conceived yesterday. Leigh recently took a break but the great news is he is now painting again!
‘Again a figure inhabits this landscape, sculpted with the paint and looming into view as the painting progresses. While this is not unfamiliar in my work I find the edges are more sharply defined and a new rhythm of mark making emerging under my hand.’
This collection of paintings by Leigh Chiller documents the artist’s early and continuing interests in figurative landscape abstraction. His expressive paintings give us the essence: that split second glimpse of a distilled journey.
'I try to get people to see what’s there and not be focused on a preconceived idea of what a picture should be. The thing’s moving, there’s wind, the light’s changing, painting’s not about a static view anymore.'
Leigh Chiller’s work is represented in Swan Hill Regional Gallery, Mildura Regional Art Gallery and various private, public and corporate collections in Australia, Europe, USA and Asia.
